Formula to calculate the Total Cholesterol count

Here is the formula...

Total Cholesterol count = LDL + HDL + (Triglycerides/5)

So for example, if LDL = 120, HDL = 52 and Triglycerides = 120 then the total Cholesterol is

Total Cholesterol count = 120 + 52 + (120 / 5)
                                                = 120 + 52 + 24
                                                = 196

Recommended total Cholesterol should be < 200 mg/dL.

Note:
  1. LDL: Low Density lipoproteins or Bad Cholesterol. The lower this count is the better. Optimum level is < 100 mg/dL.
  2. HDL: High Density lipoproteins or Good Cholesterol. The higher this count is better. Optimum level is > 60 mg/dL.
  3. Triglycerides: The lower this count is the better. Optimum level is < 100 mg/dL.
